And a Happy New Year - Fri 12/30/2016, 3:21 PM

Christmas this week was awesome!

During sacrament meeting this week, a branch president shared a story with us from his mission in California.

The story went, "I was driving along the road with my companion, and we were speeding because we had to make it to a lesson that we had to teach on time. I got pulled over, and the cop came up to the window and asked what I was doing. I told him that I was a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and I was speeding because we were late for a lesson. The cop looked at me and decided to just let me off with a warning. The cop left and my companion and I began driving to the lesson again.

"And needless to say, I began speeding again. A few miles more down the highway, I got pulled over once more. I thought I would try the same excuse about why I was speeding and see if I could get out of getting a ticket again. I was already to try, but I looked out the window only to find that it was the same cop once again. I got the ticket and had to appear before a judge this next wednesday.

"Wednesday arrived, and I went to the courthouse with my companion. I wasn't to worried about getting a fine, but then the judge walked into the room. You'll never guess who it was. The same cop who pulled me over. He knew my excuses and I decided to just take the fine. There was no way I was getting out of it.

"At this point, I was really afraid. There was no way that I could pay for this ticket. My family had barely any money, I had used mine to pay for my mission, and my mission president wouldn't pay for it. This stress was going through my head as I walked up to counter to receive my fine. The lady looked at me and handed my a receipt then said, 'It was just paid in full by your lawyer.' I was really confused about what happened and asked if the man who said he was my lawyer was still here. She said yes and pointed to a man standing behind me. I turned around and looked at the man. It was the same man."

Now, as you probably guessed, that story wasn't one hundred percent in this life, but it is a true story. It is the story of Christ and what he has done for us. He is the one who catches us. He is the one who tries us. And, most importantly, He is the One who paid the fine for each and everyone of us when there was no way that we could.

I know that He loves us. And I bear testimony to each of you that Christ is the Savior of the World, En el nombre de Jesucritso, Amen.

Thank you all for your prayers and your good thoughts.

Love,
Elder Kline DuBose
