Little bit at a time! - Mon 11/27/2017 4:31 PM

The sisters in our district had a baptism

Dear friends and family,
So, how have you been?
This week has been really good. The sisters in our district had a baptism, and that was a really cool expereince. It is incredible to see what the gospel will do to help change people. It can change who they are, and it helps them to become much better than they were.
The Church is true, and it has the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ being taught in it. I know this to be true!
Love you all,

Elder DuBose

A really cool story! - Mon 11/20, 2:32 PM

Dear friends and family,
We went to lunch this week, and the sister (Sister G.) that we were eating with shared a really cool story I would like to share with you guys.
She served a mission in mexico and she happened to have her sister in law with here in that area. She got the chance to teach her brother and her sister in law, and it was in the time when all of the missionary lessons where memorized. They got to the part about Joseph Smith, and she began to the story of Joseph Smith.
As she began, and throughout the whole lesson, he sister in law had like these bug eyes, and she kept looking at her, and looking around like she was confused.
At the end of the lesson, Sister G. asked what happened. Her sister in law looked at her and said, "You were not the one speaking in that lesson. I looked at you and I saw a man that I believe was Joseph Smith." Sister G.'s sister in law ended up getting baptized and becoming a faithful member of the church for the rest of her life.
God is a god of miracles. And Joseph Smith was a prophet!
I love you guys!
Love,
Elder DuBose

Poco a poquito -Mon 11/13, 4:26 PM

Dear friends and family,
A lot has happened this last week. So, the question is where do I begin?
Let my start with my trainee. His name is Elder Lingenbrink and he is from Washington State. He has a grand testimony, and is working really hard right now. We have a lot in common (mainly that we both don't speak Spanish, but we're working on that) and he is so cool.
We went around visitng the members this week just to present ourselves with them and see if there is any way that we can serve them. That worked really well. We got done with a lesson with a member and asked him if he knew one of the people that we were looking for, and he said, "Yeah! Let me take you to them!" And... he did. He introduced us and presented us to another person on the way there. It was super cool. This ward is awesome! (I think it is called Terrazas, but I'm not to sure how you would spell that...)
God is a God of miracles, and if you look for them, you will find all of the miracles, and there are many!
Les amo mucho!
Nos vemos la siguente semana!
Con amor profundo,
Elder DuBose

Something crazy happened this week... Tue 11/7, 4:14 PM

Elder Lingenbrink and me.

Dear friends, family, and all of you in between,
We celebrated the day of the dead in Zacatecaz this last week. They have two days, the first where they remember the dead children and the last when they remember everyone else. Both days, the kids get dressed up and go ask for candy. Instead of saying like trick or treat, they have to sing a song the goes: El muerto pide camote si no se le cae el bigote. La viuda quiere una ayuda para sus povres criaturas. And, if you don't give them candy, they curse the house.
So, we had transfers this week and... I'm back in San Luis. That was a fun Saturday night. My district leader called and gave me my companions transfers (he stayed in the area) and then told my I might want to sit down.
To make a long story less long, I'm training a new misionary here in San Luis. His name is Elder Lingenbrink and he is from Washington. Our new area is pretty amazing, and I feel like we are going to have a lot of success.
I know that the church is true, and I love you guys a ton!

Elder DuBose

Let me just tell you about MINE adventure! - Mon 10/30, 6:40 PM

Happy Halloween!  Love, District Mineros.

Dear friends and family,

One of our investigators came to a baptismal service this Saturday with us. It was a really cool expereince, and it really strengthened his testimony. It is a wonderful thing to see people willing to make commitments and change their lives.
Today, we also got to go see something called the Mine of Eden. It is an old mine here that they have turned into a tourist attraction! It was awesome!
And... that was about it for this week.
I know that the Church is True!!

A beautiful promise (see the story of Noah in the Bible)
Dear friends and family,
Another week has come and gone super fast, and I just have to say that I'm so grateful to be here.
It was a really good week. We had companion interchanges this week, and it was an awesome experience! I learned a lot of new stuff and I am so excited to start applying it! One of the hardest things about this area is just finding people to teach, but our district leader came and showed me that it is a lot more simple than I was thinking. Haha.
I know that the Church is true, and I am so happy about the impact that it has had in my life. God knows and loves each one of us, and He is constantly hoping that we will love Him in return!
Keep on being great people!
Love,
Elder DuBose

P-Days, Just the Way the I Like 'Em! - Mon 10/16, 4:38 PM

Dear friends and family,
Once again, P-day has come and gone. And, it went by so awesome!
None of the elders in my district has a lot of money left, so we went to the zone leaders house and played Monopoly and Clue. Even though it sounds really cheesey or weird, this has been one of the best P-days ever!
And, this week was really good. I had been praying that we could find more people to teach, but a lot of people just don't answer the door or say, "I have to be somewhere else when we talk to them in the streets." I was feeling really down, and thinking about how nice it would be if someone would call and give us a reference. Then, the phone rang. (It felt kind of like that scene from the Best Two Years.) I picked it up and a member said, "Elder DuBose. Two people just came into the chapel looking for the missionaries. We have their address and phone number. They would like it if you could call them right now."
It felt just like the scriptures say, that you are saved by the grace of God after all you can do.
Miracles are a part of the church, and sometimes they are hard to find, and sometimes they are easy to find. But they are awalys there. I know that this is the true church of God, and that His authority can only be found in this Church. He is a God of miracles; He always has been; and He always will be.
Keep on being awesome!
Love,
Elder DuBose

Being guided by the Lord - Mon 10/9, 3:36 PM

Dear friends and family,
Wow. I wish I could just tell you all of the incredible things that happened this week, but I don't have that much time. Or that good of a memory, so I guess well just have to see how it goes.
This week, we had an investigator comit to baptism. What a miracle that was. Our investigator (E.) was talking to us about baptism and said, "When the time is right, I would like to make the decision to be a part of this church." And one of the biggest miracles of my whole mission happened. I'm not that good at Spanish, and often backtrack on what I've said becasue it doesn't make sense. I just looked at him and said that we had prayed for him to see when he would be prepared and that the answer came to us as the 28 of october. We asked him if he would prepare for that date and E. just said, "What do I need to do? Tell me and I'll do it."
There are so many people being prepared to recieve this gospel. And the people that are preparing them are members. E. told us that he has had so many people influence his life in this direction to prepare him. Most of them were his neighbors and friends just living the Gospel and some of his friends recognizing a dificult situation and inviting him to church. To share the gospel can be as easy as just being a friend to someone in need. I know this is the truth. I love it. This is the true church of God on the Earth today, and it becomes every man to warn His neighbor.
I love you guys a ton. Thank you for the prayers and for the wonderful examples.
Love,
Elder DuBose

Another EXCELLENT Conference - Mon 10/2, 4:51 PM

Watching Conference with my family
Dear friends and family,
We got the chance to watch General Conference this week. It was awesome. Another elder in my district and I got to watch a little bit of it in english. So, cool.
The messages were really important, and there were quite a few topics that ended up repeating themselves. What I'd really like to say is that I'm so grateful that we have living prophets who guide us in these last days. And, I'm super grateful for the Book of Mormon.
I would like to share my testimony of it with you guys. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. It has taught me so much, and is the base of a lot of my testimony. I know it is real. That Joseph Smith translated the book by the power of God. Joseph Smith was a prophet, and Chirst's church was restorted to the earth through this prophet. I know it is true because I have read it, pondered it, and asked God. I have received an answer, and cannot deny it. I would invite all of you to read this marvelous book, and allow it to bring you closer to God, and teach you that God is our Father, and Jesus is the Christ. I promise that if you do so, with real intent, nothing doubting, Our Father in Heaven will manifest the truth of it unto you.
I love you guys a ton!
Love,
Elder DuBose

Another set of transfers! - Mon 9/25, 12:53 PM

Me and Elder Alverez

Dear friends and family,

This week we had transfers. Elder Barragan is going to head to San Luis and I get to stay here in Zacatecas and my new companion is Elder Alvarez. He's from Tabasco Mexico and his last area was Tabasco Zacatecas. Haha. How funny is that?
We had a good week this last week. We found a few new people, and we got the chance to teach them some really powerful stuff. One of the most powerful messages that we get to teach (in my opinion) is the Resturation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This resturation of the Gospel is one of the greatest signs of God's love for us. He gives us another chance, and has restored His Church through the prophet Joseph Smith. He has restored his authority to the earth. It is the most glourious message a person can hear. It changes lives to know that you are important to God.
I know that the Church is true!

but the missionaries in Zacatcas couldn't.

Dear friends and family,

We went looking for a lot of people this week, but we couldn't find anyone to teach. so, Elder Barragan and I hiked the lovely hills of Zacatecas for a few days. The good news is, it wasn't raining. The bad news is that I could barely breath. Let alone sing. Haha.

but, we have been seeing a lot of miracles lately. This last week, more people came to church than have in a long while. Alot of them were less actives that haven't been to church in a year. And the Spirit was so strong in that meeting.

The Church is true, and I know it. It is the Lord's kingdom here on earth.

I love you guys a ton!

Chapter ?, in which The Rain comes rushing down! - Mon 9/11, 3:52 PM

Some of the Elders from our Zone

Dear friends and family,
It rained almost everyday this week. Haha. It was crazy. We didn't see the sun for like five days straigt.
The good news, the rain did let up Sunday and Saturday afternoon and gave us sometime to contact a few people outside of there houses, because, for some crazy reason, when it rains we don't see anyone for days and days on end. One of these people that we talked with was sweeping up he front porch, and Elder Barragan took her broom and started to sweep and I started talking to her. We had a lesson with her on Sunday, and she told us that she really liked what we were teaching.
It is incredible what service can do to open people's hearts. I'm really grateful for the example Elder Barragan has been to me of that. He is a machine with service, and it really opens people up to our message a little bit more.
The Church is true and so is His love!
I love you guys a ton,
Love,
Elder DuBose

Feliz Cumpleaños Elder Barragán! - Mon 9/4, 6:52 PM

Elder DuBose and Elder Barragan

Querido familia, amigos, y cualquier otra persona,

Today was Elder Barragan´s birthday. It was fun. We got to hike up a hill that is like a huge turiost trap thing here. It was fun.

And we worked. A lot. We have been trying to work with the members here. They have a really big desire to help with the work. It's kind of a humbling experience to see people trying to help, even if they don't quite know how.

I love it here!

Love,
Elder DuBose

That awkward moment.. Mon 8/28, 4:42 PM

Dear friends and family,

So, not a whole ton has happened since last wednesday, or at least that I can remember. Haha. That´s kind of awkward.

But, I learned a lot about the importance of the Sabath Day this week. Really, just how important the Sacrament is. In section 59 of the Doctrine and Covanents, the Lord told the early saints (and us) that in order to keep ourselves more unspotted from the world, we should go to his holy house every Sunday and offer our sacraments to the Most High. Later on, he tells us that this day is a day given unto us to rest. We were talking about this experience with a less active member and I told her that the weeks when I have not participated in the Sacrament have been harder to bear. That though my body was rested, my spirit just felt kind of drained. So often we focus on the rest of our bodies that we tend to forget that the sabath was made to help our spirits recharge too. With that insight, the Sacrament ment a lot more to me this week. It is the most important part of our Sabbath day observance, and the recharge it gives us is so real.

I know that the church is true!

Love,
Elder DuBose
